Preventative maintenance -

lack of humidity control

Oxidation of lead weights in a piano keystick as a result of prolonged exposure to high humidity. Expanding lead weights can rub against adjacent keys resulting in sticking keys. The gradual expansion of the oxidising lead weights will eventually crack the wood around them

Rusty strings in a 5 year old grand piano that was left open since delivery. A lack of dust and humidity control has allowed rust to form rapidly. Rusty strings are progressively more difficult to tune, and may break prematurely and regularly

Preventative maintenance - dust control

A clear polycarbonate sheet custom fitted to a new Yamaha C3X grand piano, to prevent dust from settling (and rust forming) on the strings. More pictures available on request

Grand piano wheel replacement

Wheels on a Yamaha C5X grand piano replaced with larger smooth-rolling ones, for ease of moving between stage and storage. These wheels also add brakes to the piano
